Abstract

Climate change has become an increasingly serious phenomenon with far-reaching impacts on various resources, not only in Libya but worldwide. It poses significant damage and risks to humanity and living organisms, impacting vital ecosystems such as water, food, and health. No one is immune to its consequences, and no one can escape its effects. Consequently, it has become a genuine security threat, distinct from traditional security threats, transnational, and unpredictable.

Therefore, this study examines and analyzes the serious repercussions of climate change on Libyan national security. It identifies the direct and indirect effects of these changes and their impact on Libyan security in its various political, economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach and a case study methodology. Among its key findings is that the current degree of political and security stability is closely linked to a significant portion of the country's environmental components. The study recommends adopting policies and procedures to adapt to these changes, reduce carbon emissions, and provide protection and support to those affected by the negative impacts of climate change.
